Made-to-Measure: Fit Guide DRAFT (sandbox, not live)

Draft, sandbox only, not linked anywhere on the site. This is page 2 of the new Made-to-Measure mini-site (the fit guide and measurement walkthrough). Page 1 (order form, garment style, contact details, confidence-building copy) doesn't exist yet, so for now this page carries its own placeholder identity fields (Dog's Name, Breed, First/Last Name, Email, Phone) so a submission here is complete and testable on its own. Once page 1 is built, these fields will most likely move there and the two pages will be joined properly. Diagram images below are placeholders pending upload to Shopify Files, ask Claude to wire in the real URLs once they're up. The on-diagram input boxes are positioned by eye against the source artwork, not measured pixel by pixel, so expect to nudge their left/top percentages once the real images are in and you can see them lined up against the actual labels.

The Custom Fit Guide

This form asks for more than our standard size chart, since a custom garment for a breed outside our usual sighthound range needs more to go on than an estimate. Measure in cm, with the tape snug, not tight, and take each measurement twice for accuracy.

These apply whether or not you've ordered before, since the garment or your notes can change even when your dog's measurements haven't.

Front Leg Length is needed for the Long Sleeve Sweater and Longjohns. Hind Leg Length is needed for the Longjohns only. These show once you've picked a style.

Down the inside (inner) of the front leg, from the point where the leg meets the body, straight down to the paw, keeping the tape flat against the inside of the leg rather than wrapped around it. The same style of measurement as an inseam on your own clothes.

The same technique, down the inside of the back leg from where it meets the body to the paw.

Optional. Use it for a fabric you have in mind, or anything else distinctive about your dog we should know about.

Optional. Allergies, past fit issues, timing needs, anything else we should know.

How to measure: the core five

Type each number straight onto the diagram, right where the label points, or use the fields further down. Either way, the two stay in sync.

Around the base of the neck, where the collar naturally sits.

Around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.

From the base of the neck, where the collar sits, to the base of the tail.

From the base of the neck to the back of the ribcage. Shorter than Back Length, this stops where the tuck of the waist begins.

Around the narrowest part of the body, just in front of the back legs.

No diagram needed. It's how we double-check the other measurements make sense together, so a vet-visit scale reading or your own bathroom scale (weigh yourself holding your dog, then subtract your own weight) works fine.

Chest Width

Across the front of the chest, between the two points of shoulder, roughly where a harness strap sits. Needs a photo as well as a number, since it's the one measurement we can't easily double-check from a tape reading alone. See Photo Requirements below.

Photo Requirements

Two required photos, tape measure left in place in both. This is what lets us read proportions from the photo itself, not just the numbers.

Front-on photo. Facing the camera, tape measure across the two points of the shoulder (or from the remaining shoulder point to the centre of the chest, if a front leg is missing). Gives us Chest Width and a scale reference for the rest of the photo.

Side-on photo. In profile, tape measure from the point of the shoulder to the point of the rump, in line with the tail. Gives us a scale reference to proportion the other measurements from.

  • Good lighting with minimal shadows.
  • Dog standing naturally, squared up, not turned or favouring a leg.
  • No clothing or harnesses where possible.
